THE VINEYARDS
In the early 1700s when the Walcot area of Bath was a small village not connected to the city the area between Bath and Walcot was known as the Vineyards and the white Muscadine Grape was grown. This was until the water springs ran dry in 1730 and in 1765 buildings were erected.
Did you know … wine was measured in a ‘hogshead’ – which is about 79 gallons. In 1719 the 6 acre vineyard produced 69 hogshead of wine.
